BlueFur.com began in the hosting industry as MonsterHosting.ca in 1997. After a domain name dispute with another host attempting to market the monster brand name, MonsterHosting.ca changed their name and started over. Headquartered in Toronto, BlueFur is in the business of shared and reseller web hosting, virtual private servers, dedicated servers and domain names.

Sales
BlueFur takes sales question by email, telephone and live chat. I spoke with both a phone representative and a live chat team member. Live chat calls were answered in less than one minute, and both reps were good natured, easily answering my questions. Nice!

Setup
Account sign up is done online via a website form. I had my account details, hosting invoice and a welcome letter in my email inbox within five minutes of paying. Very smooth! I did hit one snag: BlueFur promises free account migration, where they will move your data from another web hosting server over to theirs. Unfortunately, there are set hours for this freebie service, and it only takes place during business hours on weekdays. Because I signed up on a Friday evening, this meant I had to wait through a long weekend before my website was moved over to its new home. Not a major roadblock, but certainly frustrating when you’re in a hurry to get online.

Billing
BlueFur accepts PayPal, credit cards and checks. I had just one issue with the billing department, which unfortunately again fell late on a Friday evening. BlueFur’s billing department is open limited hours, weekdays only, which can make resolution a slow, painful process.

Pricing
BlueFur has a good assortment of plans and they’re all reasonably priced. Their smallest plan, the Mini, includes 1 gigabyte of space and 50 gigabytes of bandwidth for $6.01 (CAD) a month, if paying yearly, or $6.95 (CAD) when paying month-to-month.
