GreenGeeks was founded in 2006 by Trey Gardner, a veteran in the industry. Setting themselves apart from most hosts, GreenGeeks was one of the first to jump on the green bandwagon, and currently uses 300% renewable energy. GreenGeeks offers shared Linux and reseller hosting, plus virtual private server hosting.

Sales
GreenGeeks takes sales questions 24/7 by telephone, email or live chat. I hopped on live chat to ask a few questions about shared hosting plans and was met by George, service and support representative. George was quick to respond to my many questions and seemed to know his stuff. Excellent!

Setup
GreenGeeks goes the extra mile to protect customer credit card information by manually verifying each and every new account. Once I’d completed the simple online sign-up form, I received a phone call from GreenGeeks welcoming me aboard, and double checking my sign-up information. I would normally think this would slow down the process of sign-up, but my phone call came within minutes of paying for my new account, and it was rather nice being welcomed to my new hosting company personally. Top notch!

Billing
GreenGeeks accepts all major credit cards and PayPal. I chose to pay with PayPal and was billed properly, never incurring fees which were not expected. I was also able to cancel my account with ease.

Pricing
GreenGeeks gives customers unlimited space and bandwidth for $4.95-$14.95 per month. The price you pay will depend on how far in advance you choose to pay for your account. If you pay three years in advance, you can take advantage of the advertised $4.95/month charge, but those wanting to go month-to-month with GreenGeeks will have to shell out $14.95 a month, plus pay a $15 setup fee. GreenGeeks’ pricing structure is excellent, but only if paying well in advance. Most hosts offer month-to-month plans much cheaper, and don’t make you suffer with a setup fee. On the plus side, GreenGeeks offers a $30 coupon during checkout that you can use to reduce the cost of your pre-paid plan.

Reliability
My account was active with GreenGeeks for a period of one year. During that time, my website stayed up reliably and I never had any problems with server hardware or the network.

Help & Support
Support at GreenGeeks is available by toll-free telephone number, live chat and email. I contacted the support department twice during my yearlong stay, and both experiences were pleasant. GreenGeeks went out of their way to address my questions, and even once called me back when they learned that they hadn’t given me complete information. Couldn’t be better!

Uptime
I have a premium uptime monitor in place to keep track of my domain names and hosting accounts. GreenGeeks offers a 99.9% uptime guarantee, and they more than succeeded in keeping their promise. The only downtime noticed was for server reboots and maintenance.
