Before signing up for a shared hosting plan, I wanted to get in touch with JustHost to find out about their payment plan options. JustHost offers sales support by live chat, email and telephone. As I clicked away from the JustHost webpage, a pop up window appeared and I realized a chat representative was waiting for me. Great timing! I introduced myself, proposed my question and waited. The response I got was about a current advertising special. I repeated my question and was again told about a current JustHost special. As it turns out, live chat is not really live at all, but fully automated and scripted, and is nothing more than a series of advertising promotions. Disappointing.
Next, I emailed JustHost and went about my day. When I still had no response three days later, I picked up the telephone and called JustHost. It took roughly 35 minutes to connect with a live salesperson. I found the salesperson helpful and polite and able to answer all of my questions in less than five minutes. I never did hear back from the email sales team, but I was more than happy with the competent support I received by phone.

JustHost’s setup is fully automated, so once your payment has been made, your account is automatically setup. Within five minutes of paying for my shared hosting account and registering for a free domain name, I received a letter welcoming me to the company, and explaining in great detail how I could get my site online.

Billing

I paid for hosting on a month to month basis and was charged accurately at the same time every month. I never experienced any billing difficulties with JustHost and I was never charged for services I had not requested.

JustHost’s prices are slightly confusing in that the prices listed on the front page of their website are only valid if you purchase hosting for a full two years in advance. If you choose to pay monthly, yearly or bi-annually, prices are significantly higher. Even so, JustHost’s pricing structure is average compared to similar hosts. ($7.95/month)

Reliability

JustHost was a fairly reliable host when tested over an eleven month period. During that span of time I was on a server that suffered hard drive failure and also had some downtime as the result of accidental power outages. Hardware failures happen even to the best of hosts, so that didn’t worry me at all. However, my site was offline for 62 hours without a word from JustHost in response to my concerned email. Eventually, I was moved to a new server, but without apology or explanation. I never experienced any further network or hardware difficulty with JustHost.

JustHost has a toll free telephone number and email system to deal with support questions. My emails frequently went unanswered, but telephone support with JustHost was excellent. Expect an average wait time of 35 minutes when dealing with telephone support.

Uptime

I use a premium service uptime monitoring tool and was notified several times during my first few months with JustHost that my website was down. In the instance mentioned above, my domain was offline for a period that exceeded 62 hours. True to their uptime guarantee, I was refunded my hosting fees for that month. The following months with JustHost were largely without issue.
