Make Sure Your Website is Really Online With Pingdom's Monitoring Apps

Published on 7/27/2012 by

When it comes to web hosting, there is nothing more frustrating than finding out your website is offline. A popular website monitoring company has just released mobile apps that will help you keep tabs on your website and uptime right from your smartphone, no matter where you are. Read on to learn how to take advantage of this.

What is Pingdom?

Pingdom is a website monitoring service that tracks the uptime, downtime and general performance of websites. Like many similar services, Pingdom monitors websites from multiple locations globally so that they can distinguish real downtime from routing or network problems.

Based in Sweden, Pingdom monitors websites 24/7, 365 days of the year. When something goes wrong with your websites, Pingdom alerts users of the trouble via email, text messaging, Twitter or mobile phone.

Pingdom’s new mobile apps

Pingdom recently updated their iPhone and Android apps. New Pingdom features include:

  • The ability to pause monitoring. This new toggle control lets you pause Pingdom's monitoring so that you can do maintenance on your web hosting server or website without worrying about the offline time triggering alerts.
  • An outage view. This new default view lets you examine the actual reason behind each outage. Tapping on individual outages will show users which monitoring locations detected the outage, and the reason for the error.

Pingdom apps are free and work with both free and paid Pingdom accounts. Grab the new Pingdom iOS app from the Apple Store and head to Google Play to download the Android app. And if you still need to secure a Pingdom account, you can do so free of charge from their website.
