Horrible Customer Support and Shady

Rating:

Advantages: Price
Disadvantages: Very slow customer support, rude associates- even the manager, false statements
Verdict:

We had a dedicated iWeb server for 5 months. There were problems at the beginning which they said they fixed. 4 months later, they were still not fixed. Moreover, their support is very slow- a lot slower than the industry average. When approaching them again, after the problem was not fixed, they said it is not their problem! We even spoke with the manager - the whole iWeb team has poor customer service all the way to the top. The problems we were experiencing should have never happened and were an easy fix on their side (which should have been right in the first place). They are also a very shady company because they cannot provide us the support tickets from when they said they would fix the problem - the newest support tickets are in tact though. They said it was a "problem" with their system but they checked and said they still did not see them. Deleting information to cover bad tracks is not a good way to do business. I am out money and time. I would not recommend this host to anyone. Stay away from iWeb!

iWeb or Peer1?

Advantages: 1- Value for money 2- Technical Support 3- Reliability & uptime
Disadvantages:
Verdict:

Well...I've used both iWeb and Peer1, but Peer1 for colo and iWeb for dedicated.

Both companies have good network and good tech support, but iWeb was a pain in the ass to get started with. I had to fax the authorization form numerous times before they got it, finally they did and the sales weren't all that helpful. But Martin, one of their owners, assures that the sales team have been revamped and it was all good.

Unfortunately I haven't had the pleasure to try them again.

Peer1 sign up went smooth as well as cancellation, but we had to cancel is due to price as their 1/4 cab was $900/mo with 5mbps bandwidth and 5 amps power. Sure, they are in NYC but jeez.

Bottom Line

I would say Peer1 is good with: 2- Technical Support 3- Reliability & uptime

iWeb is good with: 1- Value for money 2- Technical Support 3- Reliability & uptime

I'm sure iWeb sales have improved so give them a shout I'm sure you wont be disappointed.

Mixed emotions towards iWeb

Advantages: Great hardware/pricing
Disadvantages: Bad communication skills
Verdict: I have so mixed emotions toward iWeb, I give the hardware/pricing 5 stars. I am not even sure if there is any other company come close in this area. Now, when it comes to the support/communication they are LOOOOOOSERS. Every time I intend to contact them it become like a nightmare , really bad. I am not sure why they don not even have the minimum communication skills. Overall , I love their hosting plan so much but if their communication does not get better i will for sure be looking for new hosting plan.

Founded in 1996 and headquartered in Montreal, iWeb is currently one of the largest hosting providers in Canada. iWeb owns four Canadian-based data centers and offers Windows and Linux dedicated servers, colocation services, and a reseller program.

Review

Sales

Sales questions at iWeb are answered by telephone, live chat and email. iWeb offers sales support in three languages: English, Spanish and French. I found reps to be helpful, quick to answer, and easy to work with. The multi language support availability is also a nice touch.

Setup

iWeb services can be ordered online or by phone. The online form takes about five minutes to complete. Following sign-up, iWeb requires ID authorization by fax, so clients must fax a copy of their relevant ID to iWeb. I had some trouble here. One day after payment, iWeb still had not set up my server. Upon calling iWeb I learned that they never received the details to authorize my order, but had never made any attempt to reach out and tell me this. In total, I had to fax my details three times (and also call iWeb twice) just to get the ball rolling. Better communication here would help a lot!

Billing

iWeb takes all major credit cards and offers a thirty day money back guarantee. I was never charged for services I had not ordered and had no trouble cancelling my iWeb account a year after opening it.

Pricing

iWeb has a large assortment of servers to choose from. Their smallest server is a Core 2 Duo with one gigabyte of RAM and a 160 gigabyte hard drive, and it comes with 1 terabyte of bandwidth for $79/month. iWeb’s prices are not only affordable, but fall on the cheap end of the scale.

Reliability

My iWeb server was 100% reliable during a one year stay.

Help & Support

iWeb gives customer support in three languages by telephone, email, trouble ticket system and live chat. In almost every instance of contacting support by live chat or phone I was told that my issue was too complicated to deal with live, and I must open a trouble ticket. Trouble tickets took anywhere from a few hours to several days to answer, and I had two tickets that went completely unanswered. Could be better!

Uptime

My premium uptime monitor indicated that iWeb maintained a solid 100% uptime over a one year period.

Guarantee

  • 100% uptime guarantee.
  • 30 day money back guarantee.

Terms of Service

The Terms of Service for iWeb are online.  Highlights include:

  • Hardware replacements guaranteed to be performed in four hours or less.
  • Strong anti-spam policy in place.
  • IRC not allowed.

Bottom Line

Advantages

  • Affordable prices.
  • Stable, reliable network.
  • Customer service available in multiple languages.
  • Scalable solutions.
  • Competitive reseller program.

Disadvantages

  • Sign-up process tedious and time consuming.
  • Support can be slow.
  • Services and add-ons are pricey.
