Advantages: Flexible, work in partnership, great prices and locations.
Disadvantages: Not in Asia yet!
Verdict: We've been looking for an international provider and we've found the perfect fit with Peer1. They are more like a hosting partner than a provider.

I recommend them to anyone

Advantages: Worth the money
Disadvantages: A bit expensive
Verdict: I have been using Peer1 for 4 months now, and would never look back on the decision to host with them. I have had only one downtime issue, and it was due to the entire datacenter loosing power in the Washington DC area. They responded quickly and got my box back online ASAP. I recommend them to anyone and everyone. I am not moving away from Peer1 or "AKA The Beach" for quite some time.

Peer1 Expert Review- From the Editors

Peer 1 has been in the web hosting business since 1999. With 17 data centers to their name, Peer 1 offers managed and unmanaged dedicated server hosting, as well as cloud services, colocation and business class email.

Review

Sales

Sales questions at Peer 1 are answered by live chat, email or toll-free telephone number. I tried all three methods and found the sales team members to be intelligent and helpful, without being pushy or too overeager for a sale.

Setup

I invested in a bundled server with Peer 1. The sign-up process involves chatting with a sales rep by phone or live chat, placing an order with that sales rep, and then waiting for the server to be customized to your specifications. This is a pain-free process, though I did have a few stumbling blocks. First, some links from Peer 1’s site to the Server Beach website, where dedicated server information can be found, were inactive and did not work. This meant I couldn’t actually compare plans or see what was included with each server package. Second, all orders must be made by phone or live chat. There’s no online ordering of any kind available from Peer 1. Despite these minor annoyances, my Peer 1 server was set up relatively quickly and I had a nice welcome email from them in short order.

Billing

I had no billing issues with Peer 1 during my stay with them or with cancelling my account.

Pricing

Peer 1 has a wide assortment of hosting plans and servers suited to a variety of budgets. Servers start out at just $75 a month (with the Server Beach division), which most certainly gives clients a whole lot of bang for their buck. Servers and extra services are priced reasonably and run about average in the industry.

Reliability

My yearlong stay with Peer 1 was a pleasant one that was marred only by hard drive failure. Thanks to Peer 1’s one hour hardware guarantee, my downtime as the result of faulty hardware was minimal.

Help & Support

Peer 1 offers something called FirstCall Support. With this service, Peer 1 guarantees you’ll get the help you need on your first call, and you’ll never need to call back. While I found Peer 1 lived up to their guarantee, I also discovered that I was often transferred from support person to support person, sometimes being stuck on the phone for more than half an hour while I awaited an answer. Overall, the techs from Peer 1 are thorough and intelligent and my support experience was good, albeit slow at times.

Uptime

My premium uptime monitor showed that, with the exception of downtime as the result of hard drive failure mentioned above, my server stayed up 100% percent of the time.
